Earthquake in Indonesia

The President
Islamic Medical Associations

Dear Brothers and Sisters
Assalamu Alaikum

We trust that you are all in good health and spirit, Insha’Allah.

We are all shocked and saddened by the latest disaster to strike Indonesia. An earthquake of 6.2 in magnitude on the Richter scale struck Yogyakarta, in the province of Java early Saturday 27 May 2006 causing havoc and destruction.

Thus far, 4160 have been confirmed dead, thousands more injured, filling all available hospitals and stretching medical relief to its limits. Preliminary reports from Indonesia have confirmed that the local relief effort under the supervision of IMANI and coordinated by Dr Jamal Muhammad, are coping with the medical and immediate disaster management.

They do, however, require our urgent support in the form of medicines, medical supplies, surgical consumables, relief material (clothing, blankets, tents, processed foods etc). They may require further assistance in establishing field hospitals with portable equipment.

Please collect these items from your membership, communities, relief organizations and governments to assist our brothers and sisters in Indonesia. Should you find it easier to donate in cash, their banking details will be forwarded to you as soon as it is made available.
